Lesson 3:

Now we are going to start working with figures that are not just geometric shapes, but a mix of different types of them. The most simple figures are those whose faces are flat, with no slanted faces. This kind of figures were already deeply studied in 1st of ESO, therefore we are not going to explain them again. Anyway, you should remember how to draw their views by doing the review exercises below:

How to draw slanted faces?

Slanted faces are those that can be seen from more than one view. First, we are going to remind how slanted faces that can be seen from two different views mus be drawn (this was already studied in 1st of ESO – How to draw slanted faces). In the figure below, you can see an example of slanted face that can be seen from the side and from the top view:

Below, the faces that can be seen from each of the views have been colored. Realize that the slanted face is colored both in the side an the top views:

As you can see, this kind of slanted faces are seen as rectangles when looked straight ahead. you just need to pay attention to the width and the height of the face to draw it correctly: in this case two little squares in width and three little squares in height. Therefore, its views are:


Now we are going to move forward to figures with slanted faces that can be seen from the three views. The model below, for example, has a slanted face that can be seen from the front, the side and the top views:

Below, the faces that can be seen from each of the views have been colored. Realize that the slanted face is now colored in the three views (remember that something similar happened when drawing the views of a pyramid):

As you can see, when a face is visible from the three views it must be represented as a triangle when drawing its views. Finally, the views of the figure, correctly placed are:


To finish, we are going to draw the views of a little bit more complex model with three slanted faces: one of them visible from two views, and the other two visible from the three views:
